Our first stop was the Grand Place and its iconic Belfry tower. We had heard that arriving before 10 a.m. was key to avoiding long queues for the tower visit, so we set off early. Unfortunately, despite the seemingly short line, we spent nearly two hours inching our way to the ticket booth, where we parted with 12€ each for the privilege of climbing its 366 steps. The view from the top was undeniably breathtaking, especially with the clear sky and sunny weather. Yet, personally, I found the two-hour wait and the hefty price tag hard to justify. We lingered for only 15 minutes before descending. However, once atop, it was difficult not to marvel at the sublime vista of Bruges and its surroundings.
Descending to the Grand Place, we found ourselves in the heart of Bruges, surrounded by charming restaurants, bars, colorful gabled houses, and the provincial palace. Despite the throngs of tourists, the spacious square never felt claustrophobic. I highly recommend visiting both during the day and at night when the square is illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere.

I absolutely loved this visit! The combination of “museum” and “chocolate” already had me giddy with excitement. Admission cost 8€, including tastings (and there were plenty!). The hour-long tour takes you through the history of chocolate, from its origins in South America on cacao trees to its commercialization in Belgium. The museum showcases antique artifacts, offers tastings of various chocolate forms, and even includes a cinema session on the history of chocolate. The final room displays numerous chocolate sculptures, some weighing hundreds of kilos!
To conclude the tour, visitors can witness a demonstration by a chocolatier. Despite the crowds, it provides valuable insights into chocolate-making, and, of course, more tastings (the milk chocolate with crispy rice is a delight)!

Situated by a canal in the city center, the hotel offered a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city. Clean, well-maintained, and tastefully decorated, it provided the perfect base for our Bruges adventure.
